Dr. Christopher J. “CJ” Henley, DMD, is a general dentist in San Marco, Jacksonville, whose practice focuses on cosmetic and restorative dentistry and on dental care for patients with head and neck cancer and complex medical conditions. He has practiced since 2010 and sees every patient himself.
I’ve practiced since 2010 and have served on the Baptist MD Anderson Head and Neck Tumor Board for more than 10 years. The two kinds of work feed each other. Cancer care teaches you to plan for what can change mid-procedure; cosmetic work teaches you that a tenth of a millimeter shows.
My goal has always been simple: to build long-term relationships with my patients and provide dentistry that truly lasts. I want every person who walks into our practice to feel known, cared for, and confident in the treatment they receive. Dentistry is technical, but for me it’s also personal.
I practice cosmetic dentistry, restorative dentistry, and oral medicine in Jacksonville with a deliberate focus on careful, patient-centered care. I never rush appointments. Why my name is on the door.
Most dental offices these days go by a brand name. Ours goes by mine, and that was on purpose. When your own name is on the door, there’s nowhere to hide. I don’t want anywhere to hide.
Every recommendation we make and every restoration we place has my name attached to it, and I’m comfortable with that because I believe in how we do things here. You won’t be handed to an associate: I see every patient myself, and every crown is handcrafted by a local dental lab.
Dentistry runs in my family. My dad was a dentist and my mom was a dental hygienist, so I grew up around this work and the people who did it well. What stuck with me wasn’t the equipment. It was how their patients felt about being listened to and told the truth.
I truly enjoy what I do. I’d like to think I’m good at it, and I work to earn that every day. I’m proud of what we’ve built, I’m proud of the people I work with, and I love my patients. My name on the practice is how I say I stand behind all of it.

In practice it means a first visit of about two hours for new patients, 3D imaging when it changes the diagnosis rather than by routine, and a written plan you understand before anything starts. Education and credentials

Dr. Henley earned his Bachelor of Science in Integrative Biology and his Doctor of Dental Medicine from the University of Florida, has taught in UF’s Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and serves on the Head and Neck Tumor Board at Baptist MD Anderson.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Integrative Biology and my Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Florida, where I received recognition in ethics and cosmetic dentistry. Beyond the clinic, I stay involved in professional advocacy, having served as President of the Northeast District Dental Association and as a Delegate to the American Dental Association. I believe strongly in protecting patient care, clinical standards, and the integrity of our profession.
Teaching has been a big part of my career. I have served as faculty in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Florida College of Dentistry, working alongside residents to help train the next generation of dentists and surgeons. I am also a member of the American Academy of Oral Medicine and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.

Advanced medical collaboration
On the tumor board and in the operating room.
In addition to private practice, I serve on the Head and Neck Tumor Board at Baptist MD Anderson. This multidisciplinary team brings together specialists across medicine and dentistry to coordinate care for patients undergoing treatment for head and neck cancers.
Being part of this group is one of the most meaningful aspects of my work, allowing me to support patients during some of the most challenging moments of their lives. That experience also shapes the oral cancer screening I do at every patient’s exam, and the dental exam before radiation that protects teeth and jawbone from osteoradionecrosis.
In the operating room
For patients having part of the upper jaw removed, I plan the obturator with the surgeon ahead of time. Two are made from 3D scans before surgery, and I’m in the OR to fit and adjust the first one, because the surgical plan can change once the surgeon is working. I follow those patients through healing and radiation to their permanent obturator, usually about a year later. Read more about maxillectomy and obturators.
Care during and after treatment
Patients going through radiation often need custom fluoride trays, help with dry mouth, and exercises for jaw stiffness.
